Showrooms

Not a ‘white cube’.

When you step in, you immediately know that’s different.
No one is like another. This is true for artists and for galleries also.

Elsewhere2

In our galleries, the ultra-traditional marries the ultra-avantgarde. The result is totally unconventional. Certainly not a white cube, but an iconic black’n’red cube, which is our recognizable ‘11 [HH]-lish style’.

“The journey of discovery consists not in seeking new lands, but in having new eyes” (Marcel Proust)

Photographer for over 40 years, Carlo d’Orta evolved from an initial documentary approach to shots of abstract or metaphysical/surrealist inspiration. He focuses on the essential forms and geometric combinations produced by the interwoven architectural structures in our cities (“Biocities” series) or by the reflections on the windows of skyscrapers (“Vibrations” series).

Biocities Valencia # 23, 2015, limited edition of 3, copy 1 of 3, UVprint on plexiglass with dibond bottom, cm 110x150, price euro 3.400

Lines, intersections, combinations are unmodified in post-production or with a computer. These forms are taken for what they are, as a new urban meta-reality that takes on an almost biological meaning. The architectures are investigated not in a descriptive, but in a “biological” way, exposing the vibratory epidermal structure that constitutes the “skin” of our metropolises.
“Biocities” is part of a wider movement that aims to reconnect the urban ecosystem with the natural one, through direct actions aimed at recreating an environment that is both biologically rich and technologically advanced.

luca

Luca’s talent cannot be confined to a fence. He is a musician-composer for recitals and theatrical work, a professional anatomy illustrator, and a photographer. In his career as a freelance for the prestigious Condé Nast (Uomo Vogue, Maison et Jardin, Vogue Italia, Casa Vogue) he has shooted really everything: portraits, food, interior design, architecture, jewels. Then in 2015 he started working on “synchronicity”: 3d photo mosaics hand cut out, based on photographic family’s memory and photos of cities and landscapes.
Now he is dedicated to “Floors”, a research on road’s concrete, asphalt, and pavements with the aim to “codify the interminable genome of our existence, written on the land on which we walk.”

Floors selezione portfolio - 50

“Floors is my latest photographic research. It is an exploration of our culture, habits, and history, which I stumbled upon while walking on the streets of the world. Roads are a testimony of our existence, an infinite history book that transcends down generations the violence, accidents, beauty, and complexity of humankind better than any monument ever will. They are a graphic memory of our times; a disorganized archive of our civilization that continuously morphs and amalgamates the ancient with the new.

I started this project a year ago, but I have been looking at the ground my entire life, finding extracts of people’s lives, precious treasures, and art. I call it “Floors” because that’s where we walk barefoot, where we feel at home, and that’s the sense I’d like to transmit with this work about the world. Every street has its own DNA, made up of its unique history and heritage–no two are the same. This work aims to codify the interminable genome of our existence, written on the land on which we walk. All pictures are spontaneous and taken in just a few seconds. What you see is exactly what I encounter, taken simply with my iPhone, on the spot.”

“”Si le monde était clair, l’art ne serait pas” (Albert Camus)”.

Antonio Sammartano is a multidisciplinary artist working with painting, installations and photography. He studied Architecture in Florence and Art in Milan in Brera Academy.
Antonio is the Founder of Biennale of Contemporary Art of Trapani in Sicily.
He is also the founder of Galleria Magazzini dell’Arte in Trapani, of MagnetikZone contemporary Art Project, of International Association Art Process (Rome – Dublin).
He lives and works in Milan and Sicily, where he taught art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Trapani.

sammartano

Sammartano’s painting was born in the Mediterranean culture, melting light, color and instinct between matter and antimatter.
Antonio makes us touch the dense spirituality of the pictorial materials. He feels the need to sediment, stratify, thicken an architecture made of natural materials and of memory.

Kawamura4

Kawamura Gun is a painter, a videomaker, and a musician emerging in the International art world. Born in Yaizu, Japan he moved to London to study art. He fell in love with the trans-avantgarde movement and moved to Rome, where he still lives and works. His art could not exist without humor, cynicism, and a splash of sensuality. The urban spaces in Rome, Tokyo, and New York are the key areas of his work, which is inspired by comics, graffiti, and cartoons.

Naked characters are covering their face with gauze bandages where just the mouth comes out, eating ramen or running through the city in a caustic and paradoxical urban setting of contradictory perspectives and angles, sometimes running and eating at the same time. They occupy spaces, change dimensions, move to different angles, look scared or rather excited, are obsessed with food, and by the contemporary cycle of recycling and consumption.

The movement of the Shy Nudists, the final frontier of the paradoxical universe of Gun, represents his ironic, playful, erotic vision. In his bewildering landscapes the nudists shyly venture into the everyday panorama, breaking its rules and roles with their nakedness. The nudists are masked because once stripped of their own identity they feel no shame in doing anything. Freedom, otherwise blasphemous, which harks back to tribal rituals played out in childhood games.

The conviviality, the neighborhood games, the picnics, the city marathons are stripped of their individuality and taken back to a neutral, blank mask where the eyes are missing and the emphasis is on the mouths.

Mouths are eating, smiling, laughing, baring their teeth, trying to show their intentions, or hiding in silence. Gun’s Shy Nudists are always frantically busy hiding, demonstrating cockiness and ease, provocation and deafening derision, crippling embarrassment, and cheekiness.

Likewise Gun himself affirms: ‘The laughter hides my shyness. There’s a part of me that feels embarrassed, another that confronts things with a bitter laugh [..] I’m paralyzed in reality. Though on one hand I’m embarrassed about what takes shape in my pictures, on the other hand I dare myself to see how far I can push myself to look at the things that are inside me and not explode.’

“This is a metaphor of my curse, the impossibility of understanding human feelings”.

20155792_10213513538383128_4801394783316116625_n

Pietro Campagnoli has got the Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism that gave him a high I.Q. but bad relationship skills. At High School he always had problems in understanding the thoughts of his classmates and how to relate with them. With his sculptures he creates casts with blankets, wet with gypsum, placing them on living bodies and waiting for them to solidify. In these casts he tries to reproduce the shape of the human being, like a photograph of the bodies. His works never have definite faces, because it is impossible for him to understand people’s emotions, due to his syndrome. They are always empty because the internal body has evolved and disappeared, and the “envelope” remains, like a chrysalis.
Pietro’s work is born by the attempt to describe metaphorically his past. The most violent experiences make us the most resilient individuals. His artworks remind him that the storm can be fought and defeated if unwavering willpower supports your mind against the lashes of sensitive experiences.
